KD Theatre’s Cinderella

We were invited along to the press night KD Theatre’s Cinderella Pantomime at Harlow Playhouse. What a truly fabulous Christmas panto this was! Running until 8th January at Harlow Playhouse in Essex. This is a fantastic theatre with tiered Stadium seating meaning you get a great clear view of the stage from any seat. They couldn’t have been more warm and welcoming at Harlow Playhouse, it is a lovely theatre.

The Show

‘Cinderella longs for a happier and more exciting life away from her wicked Stepsisters. Thankfully she has Buttons her loveable companion there to look after her. When the dashing Prince Charming decides to hold a ball to find his future wife, this may just be the chance Cinderella has been waiting for. Can the Fairy Godmother help Cinderella get to the Ball? With the help of some mice and a pumpkin, anything is possible!’

We had so much fun… it was full of your favourite moments you would expect to see at panto, lots of slapstick comedy, panto dames, comedy dance routines, audience interaction, fabulous singing and dancing and some additional things you wouldn’t normally expect… two Shetland ponies and a hip hop dance group! It even featured a live band.

The set and costumes really dazzled and sparkled, they’ve certainly put in so much effort to create this special panto.

The Cast

All the cast were fantastic, Cinderella, the Prince and Dandini had incredible voices and previously starred in Westend shows. Their singing was effortless.

The Ugly Sisters had so many hilarious costumes, we couldn’t wait to see what they would come out wearing next! There were lots of brilliant comedy moments from these two plus Buttons, played by Ben Parsley. They had us all laughing and giggling with a few adult jokes thrown in too. One of the comedy dance routines in particular had us all in fits of laughter, especially every time Buttons got poked in the bottom by Dandini, it was definitely our favourite part of the show. Closely followed by the very funny ‘balloon dance’, which my daughter particularly enjoyed.

The Fairy Godmother was very entertaining, she kept making us laugh with all her phone calls from various fairytale characters! The ensemble transformed into so many different characters during the show with multiple costume changes. They were a joy to watch and the choreography was brilliant.

My thoughts

This was such an entertaining pantomime, with gorgeous sets and costumes, lots of brilliant singing and dancing and the kids absolutely loved it! You won’t be disappointed, it offers you classic panto entertainment for Christmas.

It had it all, the perfect combination of laughs, music, singing, dancing, with audience participation and a sprinkling of glitter! Perfectly magical panto entertainment!
