Afternoon Tea at the Bakehouse in Essex

Bakehouse Coffee Shop has two branches in Essex. One based in Chelmsford and one at Maldon. They offer the perfect spot for coffee with a friend, delicious breakfasts, brunches, lunches and of course afternoon tea! Not just any afternoon tea either. The Bakehouse offer either their ‘Sweet Afternoon Tea’ or ‘Savoury Afternoon Tea’. For me this is the best of both worlds! I had the pleasure of sampling them both and they were equally delicious. The great thing about afternoon tea at the Bakehouse, is that you can mix the two. So you could order one sweet and one savoury and enjoy them together.

Bakehouse Coffee Shop in Essex are renowned for their amazing bakes and traybakes. Everything is baked in house, they even make their own jam and created their own Bakehouse Coffee Blend. This is why they just had to feature on our list of ‘The Best Afternoon Teas in Essex’. Here’s what we received:

THE SWEET AFTERNOON TEA

The sweet afternoon tea at the Bakehouse consisted of a selection of finger sandwiches. They were generously filled and served on a mix of brown and white fresh bread. Handcrafted Plain and Fruit scones with Bakehouse preserve and clotted cream. Finally a selection of freshly baked cakes and sweet treats. Just some of the amazing cakes and tray bakes we received were Victoria Sponge, Jammy Dodger bake, Biscoff bake, Millionaire Shortbread and Kinder Bueno Cookies. They were gooey, sweet and incredibly delicious, by far some of the best ‘sweet stuff’ I’ve sampled. Definitely my favourite part of the sweet afternoon tea!

THE SAVOURY AFTERNOON TEA

The Savoury Afternoon Tea at the Bakehouse was perfect for any savoury lovers out there. You get to enjoy the traditional experience of an afternoon tea but with a savoury twist. Served in the same format as the sweet afternoon tea. You receive a cake stand filled with savoury treats, some of which arrived still warm. A selection of the items included were Cumberland Sausage Roll, Handcrafted Scotch Egg, Quiche, a Salad & Cheesy Garlic Bread Slices. The sausage roll and scotch egg were my favourite, they were simply amazing! I enjoyed every single bite!

TO BOOK

I thoroughly enjoyed both the sweet and savoury afternoon tea at the Bakehouse Coffee Shop. Their Chelmsford branch is one of my favourite places to visit. With seating available indoors and outside in their tranquil secret garden overlooking the stunning views of the Essex Countyside. It is the perfect setting to enjoy some tea and cake!

The full menus are available online and may change so best to check on their website before booking. Both afternoon teas are priced at £19.95 per head with options to add Champagne or a craft beer.

For further information or to book please call Bakehouse Chelmsford 01245 248245 or Bakehouse Maldon 01621 929511 or visit the Bakehouse website.
