The Cher Show, A New Musical UK Tour – London Review
I was invited to the press night of ‘The Cher Show, A New Musical’ at London’s New Wimbledon Theatre. The Cher Show tells the life story of the Goddess of Pop, Cher. Told from the perspectives of 3 Chers: Babe, Lady & Star, spanning her iconic career. The Cher Show has been on a UK tour and is running until 11th March 2023. Whether you are a Cher fan or not, this show was simply dazzling! From the amazing performances, sparkling costumes, clever and imaginative staging and of course the music. This was such a fun and incredibly entertaining production and so professional that I wouldn’t be surprised to see it hit London’s Westend at some point.

So what is The Cher Show, A New Musical all about? Find out everything you need to know about the show and UK tour!
The Cher Show, A New Musical tells the story of Cher’s rise to fame chronologically, it includes some of her biggest hits, including The Shoop Shoop Song, I Got You Babe, If I Could Turn Back Time, Strong Enough and Believe. The story begins back stage at a Cher concert, with rails of costumes and an impressive array of Cher wigs on display. Cher is missing from her rehearsal and we find her back stage battling with some personal issues…. we meet not one but in fact three Chers!
The Chers
We begin Cher’s story with Babe, played by Millie O’Connell. A young, wide eyed and innocent Cher, struggling with confidence, she finds her love for music after watching the film Cinderella with her parents. We meet Cher’s strong and independent mum and her father figure who unfortunately later leaves the picture.
Along the journey, her relationship blossom’s with Sonny (Lucas Rush) and she starts her rise to stardom. Later, Lady, played by Danielle Steers tells her part of the story, the middle era and with that, the trials and tribulations she suffered in a seemingly man’s world whilst climbing to the top. She showed she was not prepared to be censored. And finally we meet Star, the ultimate diva played by Debbie Kurup, who surfaces with her warrior spirit into the glittering icon Cher became.
Each Westend star that played the part of Cher brought their own personality to the role whilst still encompassing Cher’s iconic sound and mannerisms. Each are true powerhouses, belting out Cher’s most memorable numbers and hitting every note in the process. They were so hypnotic to watch, they looked and sounded amazing and I couldn’t take my eyes off of them!
The Show
Cher’s Love interests were played by Lucas Rush and Sam Ferriday, they were brilliant in their roles, completing matching the same musical talent as the three Chers. They were really amazing with truly fabulous voices.
With two Strictly Stars working on The Cher Show, I was really excited to see what they would bring to this production. Directed by Arlene Phillips and choreographed by Oti Mabuse. This production was sensational, a glitzy extravaganza of sparkling costumes, exciting and clever staging and the choreography was sexy, fresh and modern. It was amazing! The ensemble were all 100% committed. They danced beautifully, perfectly in time and just lived their part! You could tell they absolutely loved being up the stage… they were a pleasure to watch.
We have to talk about the costumes, they sparkled and dazzled throughout, think sexy sequins, slinky outfits and thigh high boots. Designed by Gabriella Slade who worked on the awesome costumes for the Queens of Six!
My thoughts on the show
I didn’t know what to expect from The Cher Show, but it absolutely blew me away and surpassed my expectations! The production was just stunning, it had a sprinkling of humor, clever staging, plenty of glitz and glam, sparkling costumes, amazing music and spectacular vocals from the three Chers! I could watch them again and again!
