This place blew me away, a gorgeous venue with grand rooms and an afternoon tea to suit!
Our afternoon tea arrived on a traditional three tier cake stand. On the bottom tier were a lovely selection of freshly made sandwiches, which were well filled in a mix of breads. We received Coronation chicken, smoked salmon with dill cream cheese, egg mayonnaise & chives, roast vegetables & feta and a lovely homemade pork sausage roll. It was absolutely delicious.
The Sweet Stuff
For the middle tier we each received two warm home baked scones, one plain and one fruit. They came with lashings of Cornish clotted cream and Tiptree jam. The scones were delicious, dusted in icing sugar with a nice crusty top and soft inside. They have a really lovely flavour and are seriously good, you will not be disappointed.
On the top tier we received a delicious array of mini cakes and patisserie items. We each received a lemon meringue tart, a chocolate & coffee mousse with marsala sponge, spiced carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and a white chocolate & almond macaroon. These again were all baked in house and were absolutely gorgeous. There were so many lovely treats, therefore we got to take some home for later!
They have an extensive tea menu to choose from to compliment your afternoon tea. With over 13 varieties, your bound to find something you like. In addition, you get a complimentary fruit mocktail served in a vintage glass bottle. Its a lovely touch and a nice refresher between courses. You can also upgrade to a sparkling afternoon tea.
The afternoon tea at Wivenhoe House Hotel is very impressive. Each element baked and prepared onsite by their expert kitchen team. They boast using the freshest and finest local produce and this was reflected in the quality of their afternoon tea. We had a wonderful experience at Wivenhoe House and it rightfully deserves it’s spot on the list of The Best Afternoon Teas in Essex.
This was my second visit to Wivenhoe House and I am so pleased to say that their standard and quality is just as good as my first visit. The afternoon tea itself was amazing and we loved the venue. It has a lovely ambience in their restaurant, which made it such a wonderful experience! It really feels like a luxury affair! I would highly recommended an afternoon tea at Wivenhoe House in Colchester, Essex!
