The County Hotel in Chelmsford
The County Hotel is an elegant and classic hotel situated in Chelmsford Town Centre. Afternoon Tea at The County Hotel is served in the award winning Samphire Restaurant and is an elegant affair.
At The County Hotel you can opt for either the Traditional afternoon tea for £24 per head or the Savoury ‘Great British’ afternoon tea for £28 per head. They also serve children’s afternoon teas for £15 per head and seasonal afternoon teas throughout the year.
The photos below show an ‘afternoon tea for one’, so you can see exactly what you receive per head, for both the Traditional and Savoury afternoon teas.
The Traditional Afternoon Tea
The traditional afternoon tea at The County Hotel Chelmsford includes a selection of freshly made finger sandwiches featuring afternoon tea ‘old favourite’ fillings; honey roasted gammon, smoked salmon and cream cheese, egg mayonnaise and cream cheese and cucumber.
The savouries are then followed by not one, but two delicious warm hand made scones per head, one fruit and one plain, along with clotted cream and jam. We enjoyed a wonderful selection of handmade sweet treats. The delice apricot cake was incredibly light, it was particularly good. We also received a lovely moist lemon drizzle cake, a selection of macaroons, mini meringue kisses and a soft gooey chocolate brownie. This was a really nice traditional afternoon tea, perfect portion size and I really enjoyed it very much. The cakes were just the right size to enjoy, without getting too full.
The Savoury Great British Afternoon Tea
The Great British savoury afternoon tea is very impressive! A huge portion so perfect for those with a bigger appetite and prefer savoury over sweet. You are spoilt for choice with this savoury afternoon tea. It consisted of generously filled roast beef and coronation chicken sandwiches, welsh rarebit and then some hot savoury delights. These were really good! We enjoyed a homemade scotch egg with soft yolk, a generous portion of chunky sausage roll, mini fish and chips and pork crackling sticks.
The sweet stuff didn’t disappoint either, like the traditional afternoon tea, you receive two freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam. We also had a gooey chocolate brownie and a slice of carrot cake.
I thought the Great British Afternoon Tea at The County Hotel was an excellent twist on the usual afternoon tea. I would definitely recommend trying it out! Huge portion and absolutely delicious!
