A Family friendly pub in Essex with dining pods, just minutes from Shoebury East Beach
Just five minutes’ walk from Shoebury East Beach, The Old Garrison Pub & Kitchen is a gorgeous pub and restaurant in Essex that’s totally geared up for families, foodies, and anyone who loves a laid-back lunch in a lovely setting.
One of the standout features? The private dining pods in the garden. They’re cosy, stylish, and perfect for everything from a family lunch to a low-key celebration. If you’re looking for somewhere special to eat with a view in Essex, these are the cherry on top.
A Brilliant Garden for Families (and Dogs!)
The garden is fully enclosed, making it ideal for those of us with little ones or four-legged friends in tow. There’s a great children’s play area, loads of outdoor seating and a lovely relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to settle in for the afternoon. This place is truly one of the best family-friendly pubs in Essex, a big tick for parents!
Food Review – Tasty, Generous & Great Value
They menu has a lovely mix of pub classics and small plates, with something for everyone, including Breakfast and Lunch Options. Whether you fancy a fry up, a loaded jacket potato or a pub classic like a Fish & Chips or Lasagne, The Old Garrison has got you covered.
We tried the sharing plates (3 for £12), and honestly, the portions were huge! It’s brilliant value, especially if you’re dining as a group or just fancy grazing with drinks. Here are some examples of the sharing plates:

We were genuinely impressed with the quality and we all know how hit-and-miss pub food can be. Here? Definitely a hit. We knew if would be good as we are firm fans of their sister cafe Lillies Cafe in Wickford, also serving epic breakfasts and lunches!
