I have heard a lot about Dedham Boathouse Boat Hire in Essex and thought now lockdown has eased, it would be the perfect destination for a family day out in Essex.

Dedham Vale is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dedham Boathouse is located just minutes from the picturesque Dedham High Street on the River Stour. Free parking is available on site for customers or there is more parking available at Dedham public car park just a couple of minutes walk away.

Boat Hire in Essex

At Dedham Boathouse you can hire boats boats from March to October on the River Stour for £20 for 1 hour. Boat Hire is available 7 days a week from 9am to 4pm. Tickets for boat hire are purchased at the kiosk. You do not need to pay a deposit and advanced booking is not required. They recommend a maximum of 4 Adults to a boat or up to 5 people with children in the party. There is no minimum age requirement but a responsible person over 17yrs of age must be present in the boat.

It felt very comfortable and safe, with queues socially distanced and the boats being cleaned between each hire. We boarded our rowing boat and took a leisurely journey along the river approximately 25-30 mins. At the half way point we turned around and made our way back along the river to the Boathouse. There is no better way to see the gorgeous rolling fields of Constable Country. The views at Dedham Boathouse were simply spectacular with plenty of wildlife to see along the way. Flatford Mill is just a mile and a half along the river, which was made famous by artist John Constable.
