Afternoon Tea at Mary Green Manor
If you are looking for a special afternoon tea in Essex within a beautiful period property, then Mary Green Manor Hotel in Brentwood is the perfect choice. It is a fine example of early sixteenth century architecture and was initially the home of Henry Roper, the gentleman servant to Catherine of Aragon. It is believed that Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon would of once stayed here. You can even book a stay at Mary Green Manor.
The hotel is a mix of modern accommodation combined with the main building which is filled with original Tudor features, such as oak beams, ornate ceilings, wood panelled walls and original fireplace. Afternoon tea at Mary Green Manor is served in their bright and airy conservatory overlooking the gardens or within the Tudors Restaurant. It really is a beautiful spot to enjoy an afternoon tea in Essex to celebrate Birthday Gatherings, Baby Showers, Office Parties, Reunions and Anniversaries. They feature on our list of the ‘Best Afternoon Teas in Essex‘ and rightfully so, I had a wonderful experience at Mary Green Manor Hotel!
Mary Green Manor Hotel
Not only do they offer afternoon tea at Mary Green Manor Hotel, but they also offer Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner in their Tudors Restaurant. They also have an extensive lounge menu offering light meals, snacks and sandwiches. It is also a wonderful and interesting venue for overnight stays, meetings, functions and weddings.
Afternoon Tea
The afternoon tea at Mary Green Manor is served in either the Conservatory between 12:30pm-4:30pm Monday-Saturday and 4:30pm-6:30pm on Sundays and in the Restaurant between 12:30pm-2:30pm Monday-Saturday.
Their traditional Afternoon Tea is £25 per person or £34.00 per person including a glass of chilled Champagne. They also offer a Celebration Tea, which swaps finger sandwiches for a selection of luxury savoury canapes and pastries are replaced with a delicate assortment of petit fours – all served with a glass of Prosecco or a non-alcoholic cocktail. This is £37.00 per person.
The Savouries
Our afternoon tea was presented on a traditional three tier cake stand, alongside a classic white china tea set. The bottom tier featured an array of freshly made sandwiches. Filled with classic afternoon tea fillings on a mixture of lovely thickly slice breads. We received ham & cucumber, egg mayonnaise, smoked salmon & cream cheese and cheese & tomato.
The Sweet Stuff
The sweet course of the Afternoon Tea at Mary Green Manor really sold it for me! For the middle tier we each received two warm home baked scones, one plain and one fruit. They came with lashings of clotted cream and jam and were absolute perfection! Dusted in icing sugar with such a wonderful crunch and yet incredibly soft inside. They were delightful scones, I really couldn’t fault them. You receive two scones per person which is a very generous portion.
For the top tier we received a really lovely selection of cakes and sweet treats. We each received a mango and coconut panna cotta, mini victoria sponge, mini carrot cake and a chocolate and coffee slice. The panna cotta was amazing, so creamy with a kick of flavour from the mango. This was definitely my favourite, closely followed by the very moist carrot cake. The sweet stuff at Mary Green Manor really did impress me, they tasted as beautiful as they looked!
Alongside your afternoon tea, you can opt for tea or coffee. You can choose from a selection of 10 different teas or a coffee of your choice. You can also upgrade to a sparkling afternoon tea for a glass of Champagne.
